In 1917, Somerset Maugham was on a South Pacific cruise.
His vessel stopped at the Samoan island of Tuluila, in the tiny village of Pago-Pago.
Due to an outbreak of disease, they stayed two weeks.
Among the people with him were an American missionary and  his wife
and an American woman of "ill repute".
The clash between the missionary and the woman
became the basis of Maugham's story, "Miss Sadie Thompson".
The building where they stayed in Pago-Pago is now the "Sadie Thompson Hotel".

Made into 3 movies starring, in order, Gloria Swanson, Joan Crawford and Rita Hayworth,
it's the basis of our new production, Rain.

The question is simple: in the tropic rain, does evil cease to be evil?
